Amy Dowden Unsure About Strictly Return as She Makes Heartbreaking Confession

Amy Dowden, one of Strictly Come Dancing’s most beloved professional dancers, 

has opened up about her uncertain future on the show, admitting she still doesn’t know whether she will return for the 2025 series.

Amy’s Inspirational Comeback After Cancer Treatment

In May 2023, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer, forcing her to step away from Strictly Come Dancing for the 2023 season while she underwent treatment.

The Welsh dancer, known for her incredible talent and infectious energy, remained hopeful about returning to the ballroom, and in 2024, she made a highly anticipated comeback when she was partnered with JLS singer JB Gill.

However, her time in the competition was unfortunately cut short due to a foot injury, forcing her to withdraw. Strictly newcomer Lauren Oakley stepped in to partner with JB for the remainder of the series, and together they reached the final.

Despite the setback, Amy was able to rejoin Strictly for the UK tour, where she once again danced alongside JB Gill. Reflecting on that experience, she shared how much she cherished the opportunity to perform again in front of live audiences.

Waiting for the Call: Will Amy Return for 2025?

Like the other professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing, Amy is currently waiting for confirmation from the show’s producers about whether she will be part of the 2025 series. Speaking to The Mirror, she revealed that the decision is typically made in the spring and that she is keeping her fingers crossed.

“We are waiting to find out, fingers crossed,” Amy said. “We would love to, but we are waiting for the decision to be made which is normally in the springtime.”

In the meantime, she has been keeping busy with her own projects, including an upcoming dance tour with fellow Strictly professional Carlos Gu. The tour, titled Reborn, is set to begin next month and is expected to be a major highlight of her career outside of the show.

Amy’s Emotional Confession About Her Strictly Return

“Last year, it was a lot of emotions—excitement, but I think also pressure I had put on myself,” she shared.

“I didn’t truly enjoy myself,” she admitted. “I wasn’t confident in myself, really deep down. I think I was still trying to accept everything. I didn’t look the same, with my hair growing back. You could see a difference in me.”

A Newfound Confidence and Hope for the Future

Despite the challenges she faced last year, Amy is feeling much more like herself again and is hopeful that if she does return to Strictly this year, she will be able to enjoy it without the same internal struggles.

“I think this year, I would be able to truly go in and enjoy it,” she said. “That’s what I would be looking forward to the most if I took part in the 2025 series.”

Amy also revealed that during the Strictly Come Dancing tour at the beginning of the year, she had a heart-to-heart conversation with fellow professional dancer Dianne Buswell. It was during that moment that Dianne pointed out how much Amy had changed and regained her old spark.

“Dianne said at the tour rehearsals, ‘We have got Amy back,’” she shared. “She could see I wasn’t like that during the series. If I am back [on Strictly] this year, I would just embrace and enjoy every second.”
