SHOCKING: Savannah Guthrie leaves her audience on edge by disclosing a night-time ritual she makes her kids carry out before hitting the sack.

Savannah Guthrie, the beloved TODAY show anchor, has always been open about her faith and the role it plays in her life.

Now, as a mother, her greatest hope is that her two children—Vale, 10, and Charley, 8—develop a strong, personal relationship with God.

In a heartfelt conversation with TODAY.com, Savannah shared her deepest prayer for her children.

“I pray that God will hold them and carry them and sustain them after I’m gone or in times when they feel alone,” she revealed.

Faith, she believes, is a source of comfort, strength, and unwavering love, and she wants her children to experience that firsthand.

Incorporating Faith into Daily Life

To help nurture their faith, Savannah has integrated prayer into her children’s nightly routine. Each evening before bed, they pray together, followed by 30 seconds of silence. This small but powerful practice is a way for them to connect with God on a deeper level.

“It’s a practice to, you know, let God have a quiet moment with you,” she explained. “Sometimes amazing things transpire from that, and sometimes 30 seconds pass, and you just move on with your night. It’s just an opportunity.”

By making prayer a regular part of their routine, Savannah hopes to instill a habit of seeking God’s presence in both joyful and challenging moments.

A Special Scripture for Each Child

Savannah has also encouraged her children to memorize a special Bible verse that she handpicked for them. Vale’s verse, from Zephaniah 3:17, carries a message of love, protection, and divine joy:

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

For Savannah, every line of this scripture holds deep meaning. “You can meditate on every line,” she said. “‘The Lord your God is with you’—you are not alone. He’s strong—He can handle your problems. ‘He will take great delight in you.’ You’re treasured. You’re valuable. You’re special. He ‘will rejoice over you with singing.’ You make Him happy.”

She describes the verse as an “all-encompassing expression of God’s love,” a message she deeply wants her daughter to hold onto as she grows.

Faith as a Central Theme in Her Writing

Savannah’s passion for sharing God’s love extends beyond her family—she has also brought it into her work as an author. Her latest children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You, is a faith-based story that reflects her own spiritual journey. She describes the book as a gentle bedtime story meant to remind children of their unique and cherished place in the world.

“It’s this sweet and gentle goodnight book that sets kids in their precious place in this world,” she explained. “The message is really simple: You’re who you were meant to be, and where you were meant to be.”

The children’s book is a companion to her recently published book for adults, Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere. Both books carry the same core message—that God’s love is ever-present and unconditional.

Embracing Questions and Doubt

Savannah understands that faith is a journey, not a destination. As her children grow, she knows they may experience moments of doubt, and she is prepared to meet those questions with compassion.

“Questioning God is a part of the faith walk. And I think that God understands that. We have seasons of devotion and we have seasons of doubt,” she shared. “But my basic belief is that whatever your doubts are—bring them to God. He doesn’t expect us to suffer in silence.”

Rather than discouraging questioning, Savannah believes it can lead to a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God. Her approach is rooted in love, understanding, and the unwavering belief that faith, even when tested, remains a guiding force.

A Mother’s Greatest Prayer

As a devoted mother, Savannah’s greatest desire is for her children to find comfort and strength in their faith, just as she has. Through prayer, scripture, and open conversations, she is laying a foundation that will allow Vale and Charley to explore their spiritual journey with confidence.

In a world full of uncertainties, Savannah Guthrie holds onto one simple yet profound hope—that her children will always feel God’s love, no matter where life takes them.
