Sheinelle Jones lets down her supporters by disclosing the truth behind her absence from TODAY—her own “avarice”: IS THERE EVER SUCH A THING AS ENOUGH?

Today show co-host Sheinelle Jones has finally addressed her extended absence from the NBC morning program, explaining that she has been dealing with a family health matter.

Sheinelle Jones Opens Up About Time Away from Today

On Wednesday, February 21, Jones took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with her followers, revealing why she has been away from the show for the past month.

“Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” Jones wrote in her post.

She continued by explaining the reason for her time away: “I want to share that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.

It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you.”

Jones ended her message by thanking fans for their concern and support, writing, “Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

When Was Sheinelle Jones Last Seen on Today?

Jones last appeared live on Today on December 18, 2023. Since then, she has only been seen in pre-recorded segments, leading viewers to wonder about her whereabouts. Her absence became even more noticeable during Hoda Kotb’s emotional farewell last week, where many Today personalities paid tribute to their departing co-host. However, Jones was not present for the occasion, raising further speculation among fans.

Co-Hosts Address Jones’ Absence

On Wednesday’s broadcast, Today show anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin acknowledged Jones’ absence and directed viewers to her Instagram post for an explanation.

“We want to share some news here about our friend Sheinelle… We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her too,” Guthrie said before reading Jones’ statement on air.

Melvin followed up with a heartfelt message of support, saying, “We all love you and we are so looking forward to having you back.”

Jones’ absence was also addressed during Today’s third-hour segment, which she co-hosts alongside Melvin, Dylan Dreyer, and Al Roker. Dreyer reassured viewers that Jones was deeply missed by both the team and the audience.

“We know so many of you are missing her. Obviously, of course, we are here too. We can’t wait for her to come back, and Sheinelle, we love you,” Dreyer said.

Melvin echoed the sentiment, while Roker, known for his warm and lighthearted demeanor, blew a kiss toward the camera in support of his co-host.

Sheinelle Jones’ History with Today

Jones has been a familiar face on Today since 2014 when she joined the show as a co-host. Over the years, she has become a beloved figure among viewers, known for her upbeat personality and engaging storytelling.

Before joining Today, Jones spent nearly a decade at Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia, where she built a strong reputation as a morning news anchor. Her transition to NBC only expanded her influence, allowing her to take on multiple roles, including hosting The More You Know’s Wild Child segment, where she showcases baby animals from around the world.

Jones has previously taken time off for personal and health reasons. In 2020, she underwent vocal cord surgery that left her unable to speak for weeks. She later shared her recovery experience with People, detailing the challenges of maintaining her voice as a broadcast journalist.

“It’s to the point where people at home have no idea what I do just to get ready for a show in the morning,” Jones revealed. “When I get a call that I have to track a story early in the morning, I get up like 30 minutes early so I can do exercises on my throat just so that I don’t sound hoarse.”

What’s Next for Sheinelle Jones?

While Jones has not specified a return date, her message suggests that she plans to be back on Today soon. In the meantime, her co-hosts and fans continue to show their support and anticipation for her return.

With significant changes happening at Today, including Hoda Kotb’s departure and Craig Melvin’s expanded role as a main co-anchor, Jones’ return will bring a sense of familiarity and balance back to the morning show lineup.

For now, viewers will have to wait for updates on when she will be back on air. In the meantime, her Today family and fans are sending their well wishes as she focuses on what matters most—her family’s health and well-being.
