Michael Strahan struggles to hold back tears while discussing the prejudice he encountered at GMA: “They even made fun of my name…”

Michael Strahan has never been one to hold back when it comes to sharing funny or personal stories.

The Good Morning America co-host frequently keeps his colleagues entertained with his candid moments, and his latest revelation was no different.

During a recent segment on GMA, Strahan was joined by co-hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos for an interview with comedian and author Chelsea Handler.

While discussing her new book and Netflix special, the conversation took an amusing turn

when Michael shared a nickname from his childhood—one that left everyone in the studio laughing.

Michael Strahan’s Childhood Nickname Leaves GMA Co-Hosts Amused

During the interview, Chelsea Handler opened up about a defining moment in her career when actress Jane Fonda confronted her about certain behaviors. She explained that Fonda invited her to a private meeting for what turned out to be a difficult but life-changing conversation. While initially embarrassed, Handler said the moment taught her the value of accountability and sisterhood, helping her grow both personally and professionally.

As the discussion continued, Strahan chimed in to reveal that Jane Fonda had also played a role in his life, albeit in a much different way. The former NFL star shared that as a kid, he was given the nickname “BOB,” which stood for “Big Ol’ Butt” and “Booty on Back.”

The unexpected admission immediately sent Stephanopoulos and other crew members into fits of laughter. Strahan, always one to laugh at himself, went on to explain that his childhood nickname led him to work out using Jane Fonda’s fitness tapes in an attempt to tone his physique.

“I bought Jane Fonda tapes, and I had to work out to Jane Fonda to lose my butt,” Strahan shared, embracing the humor in the situation.

His co-hosts were clearly entertained, with Roberts jokingly responding that she would need to “think about that” before moving on to wrap up the interview.

Chelsea Handler Names Michael Strahan Her ‘Dream Guest’

While the conversation had plenty of hilarious moments, Handler also used the opportunity to extend an invitation to Strahan. She mentioned that she would love to have him as a guest on her popular podcast, where she takes calls from everyday people and offers advice.

Strahan seemed intrigued by the idea and quickly agreed, telling Handler they would need to set it up. The comedian jokingly responded that her real goal for appearing on GMA was simply to get Strahan booked for her podcast.

This lighthearted exchange was just one of several entertaining moments Strahan has had on the show recently. Known for his humor and easygoing nature, he often finds ways to keep the conversation fun, even when discussing more serious topics.

Strahan’s Continued Work in Media and Philanthropy

Beyond his on-air personality, Strahan has built an impressive career spanning sports, television, and business. After a successful NFL career with the New York Giants, he seamlessly transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a fixture on Good Morning America and co-hosting Fox NFL Sunday.

In addition to his media presence, Strahan is actively involved in charitable work. Through his company, SMAC Entertainment, he has taken on projects that spotlight important issues. One such endeavor is Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Battle Against Cancer, a powerful documentary co-produced with ABC News. The project highlights the resilience and challenges faced by those battling serious illnesses, demonstrating Strahan’s commitment to using his platform for meaningful storytelling.
