Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, the hosts of ITV’s This Morning, 

have faced criticism from viewers following their return to the show on February 24, after a break for the half-term holiday. 

The duo, who took time off to spend with their families, kicked off the show by sharing stories of their recent skiing trips, 

but their casual recounting of their vacations sparked backlash from some members of the audience.

The pair greeted the viewers with warmth, with Ben Shephard offering a cheerful “Welcome back,” to which Cat Deeley replied, “It feels lovely to be back.” 

The conversation quickly turned to their respective holidays, with Ben prompting Cat to share details of her week off. 

She revealed that she had taken her children skiing for the first time, stating, “We went skiing and I took the boys for the very first time.”

As the show aired clips of her sons skiing, Cat shared her pride in their progress, saying, “This is what they managed to do. They actually managed to do that in the end, in matching coats so I could spot them on the slopes. They managed to do it without falling over.” The viewers saw footage of Cat’s sons skiing, showcasing their accomplishments, much to her delight.

Ben Shephard, who also spent his break skiing with his family, joined in the conversation, commenting: “I loved seeing your footage because I just want to give you a little insight into what your future is going to look like with your two.” He went on to share his own experience, saying, “That’s my two there. If anyone has been anywhere near Austria, the MooserWirt is a well-known place, and I was trying to keep up with my two, so it’s lovely watching you two.”

Ben described his skiing trip, recalling how his children had become skilled skiers, and he struggled to keep up with them. “This is me trying to keep up with them,” he said with a chuckle, “and I was doing everything to get as close to them as I can.” Cat humorously quipped, “Someone was rushing to get down for some milk tray. Desperate for some chocolate,” prompting laughter from Ben.

While the hosts seemed to enjoy their lighthearted chat about their vacations, not all viewers shared their enthusiasm. Several This Morning viewers took to social media to express their displeasure, criticizing the presenters for seeming out of touch with the struggles of their audience. One viewer tweeted, “Ben and Cat rubbing their luxurious holidays in the faces of the viewership who are generally overworked, underpaid, over-taxed and unlikely to take such fabulous holidays! #ThisMorning.”

Another viewer expressed frustration, saying, “@thismorning for god sake! People living in poverty and these two over-privileged morons banging on about skiing holidays! Just keep it professional @benshephard @catdeeley #thismorning.” Some commentators also expressed similar sentiments, with one writing, “Ben and Cat are so out of touch,” while another complained, “#thismorning Do we really care what you presenters did last week. Just boastful.”

Despite the criticism, many viewers expressed their enjoyment of the duo’s return. One fan tweeted, “Great to see Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley back from their holiday #ThisMorning,” offering a more positive response to their segment.

While the pair’s return to This Morning was met with mixed reactions, it’s clear that their candid and playful discussions about their holidays resonated with some, while others found the conversation tone-deaf in light of broader social and economic issues.
