The presenters of This Morning face intense backlash over an “insensitive” comment regarding weight-loss medication.

ITV’s This Morning faced significant backlash from its audience following Wednesday’s episode, with many viewers taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction.

Fans criticised the show’s content, branding it “boring” and even threatening to stop watching altogether.

Viewers Left Unimpressed by Show’s Segments

The latest episode featured a mix of lifestyle and entertainment segments, but instead of engaging audiences, it appeared to frustrate many.

One of the most criticised moments came when the show aired a live jigsaw puzzle competition,

featuring two professional puzzlers racing against each other to complete a complex design. Rather than being entertained,

some viewers questioned the decision to dedicate airtime to the segment.

Adding to the discontent, the episode also included a discussion on weight loss injections, a gadget expert showcasing various cleaning products, and a cooking demonstration by chef Donal Skehan, who made a simple six-ingredient banoffee pie. While these segments might typically appeal to the daytime audience, the overall response suggested that Wednesday’s episode failed to hit the mark.

Fans Threaten to Switch Off

Following the episode, social media was flooded with complaints, with many viewers openly expressing their frustration. Some went as far as to suggest they would stop watching the show altogether if the content did not improve.

On X (formerly Twitter), one viewer wrote: “#ThisMorning Not sure who is in charge of putting out this daily drivel but, ARE YOU OK.”

Another viewer criticised the show’s recent direction, saying: “It’s no wonder people are switching off, and #ThisMorning is no longer winning awards!”

Meanwhile, another unimpressed fan vented their frustration over the jigsaw puzzle segment, exclaiming: “#ThisMorning F***** jigsaws! They’ve run out of material, haven’t they?”*

The weight loss discussion also proved to be a divisive topic. One viewer commented: “If they don’t stop banging on about them, weight loss jabs are going to make me give up #ThisMorning.”

Ongoing Challenges for This Morning

The recent backlash comes at a time of transition for This Morning, following major changes in its presenting lineup. The show, now hosted by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, has been working to refresh its content and engage audiences, but reactions remain mixed. While some viewers have welcomed the new presenting duo, others remain skeptical about the show’s direction.

Audience complaints about lackluster content have been an ongoing issue, with some fans feeling that This Morning has struggled to maintain the same level of entertainment and engagement that once made it a daytime TV favourite.

A Moment of Redemption with Stephen McGann

Despite the overall criticism, there was one highlight in the episode that appeared to lift viewers’ spirits. Actor Stephen McGann, best known for his role in Call the Midwife, made an appearance on the show, and fans were delighted to see him.

The mood on social media shifted when McGann joined Ben and Cat on the sofa, with viewers sharing their appreciation for the actor. One fan commented: “Stephen McGann is looking very well. God love him.”

His presence offered a brief respite from the negativity surrounding the rest of the episode, with many praising his charm and screen presence.

What’s Next for This Morning?

As This Morning continues its new era with Shephard and Deeley at the helm, the production team may need to reassess the content strategy to ensure they are delivering segments that resonate with their audience. The backlash from Wednesday’s episode suggests that viewers are looking for more engaging and varied content, rather than what they perceive as filler material.

The recent criticism also raises questions about how ITV plans to maintain This Morning’s position as a leading daytime show. While changes in presenting teams can bring fresh energy, retaining viewers requires a balance between light-hearted entertainment and meaningful discussions that capture audience interest.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the producers will take audience feedback into account and make adjustments in future episodes. If Wednesday’s backlash is anything to go by, viewers are not afraid to voice their opinions—and, if necessary, switch off entirely.
