ALARMING: Police release photos of Gene Hackman’s wife at the time of her passing—her body covered in sores, her face nearly unrecognizable.

Hollywood legend Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their New Mexico home,

leaving authorities puzzled about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The shocking discovery was made by maintenance workers, who had not seen the couple for about two weeks, prompting concern about their well-being.

Disturbing Discovery Inside the Hackman Residence

Authorities were called to the couple’s $3.3 million estate in Santa Fe, where they found the door unsecured and slightly open.

Upon entering, officers discovered Arakawa’s body in a bathroom near the home’s entrance,

showing significant signs of decomposition, including bloating and mummification of her hands and feet. A prescription pill bottle was also found nearby, with pills scattered around the room.

A deceased German shepherd was located close to Arakawa’s body, inside a closet within the bathroom. The presence of a space heater near her head raised questions for investigators, who speculated that it might have fallen during a possible sudden collapse.

Hackman, 95, was found in the mudroom of the residence, near a pair of sunglasses. His body also showed clear signs of decomposition, leading officers to believe he had “suddenly fallen.” Despite the grim scene, there were no indications of forced entry or robbery, leaving investigators searching for answers.

Authorities Label Deaths as Suspicious

The circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths were concerning enough for law enforcement to conduct a detailed investigation. Santa Fe County deputies described the scene as suspicious but found no immediate evidence of foul play.

The fire department ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning after conducting tests inside the home. Meanwhile, two other dogs on the property were found alive—one inside the house and the other outside—raising further questions about what led to the deaths of Hackman, Arakawa, and their third dog.

The medical examiner is expected to determine the official cause of death, which could provide more clarity on whether natural causes, an accident, or other factors played a role.

A Devastating Loss for Hackman’s Family and Fans

Following the tragic news, Hackman’s family released a heartfelt statement expressing their grief. His daughters, Elizabeth, Leslie, and Annie, spoke of their father not just as an acclaimed actor but as a beloved family man.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman, and his wife, Betsy. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us, he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss,” the statement read.

Remembering Gene Hackman’s Iconic Legacy

Gene Hackman, known for his remarkable acting career spanning several decades, was one of Hollywood’s most respected performers. With two Academy Awards to his name, including Best Actor for The French Connection and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven, he solidified his legacy as a powerhouse in the film industry.

Hackman was also known for his roles in Superman, The Royal Tenenbaums, Mississippi Burning, and Hoosiers, among many others. He officially retired from acting in 2004 and largely stayed out of the public eye in his later years, opting for a quiet life in New Mexico with his wife, Betsy.

Arakawa, a talented classical pianist, was Hackman’s second wife. The couple had been together for over three decades, leading a private and peaceful life away from Hollywood’s spotlight.

Ongoing Investigation and Awaited Answers

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of Hackman and Arakawa’s deaths, the New Mexico Gas Co. is also assisting in the inquiry. Officials are working to rule out any environmental factors that could have contributed to the tragedy.

With the medical examiner’s report pending, Hackman’s family, friends, and fans are left mourning the loss of an acting legend and his beloved wife. Their unexpected passing marks the end of an era, as Hollywood bids farewell to one of its most celebrated stars.
