Anton Du Beke shocked his followers with a suggestion that he might undergo GENDER REASSIGNMENT SURGERY to pursue his long-desired aspiration: “I’ve been patient for far too long…”

Anton Du Beke is best known as a legendary professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, but before his career flourished on the dance floor,

he once considered taking a completely different path—professional golf.

The 58-year-old has an impressive handicap of one and has often spoken about his passion for the sport,

which he now channels into his new podcast, Putt and Strut, co-hosted with Sky Sports presenter Sarah Stirk.

Golf vs. Dance: A Close Comparison

Reflecting on his love for the sport, Anton has admitted that if things had played out differently, he could have pursued golf professionally.

“I could quite happily have taken it up as a profession if I’d stumbled into it before dance, because the two are very similar,” he shared. “You’re always striving for the next level. You can’t perfect golf, and dancing is the same thing.”

Anton believes his years of training in dance have given him an advantage in golf, particularly when it comes to movement and rhythm. “There’s an element of correlation between golf and dance in motion, timing, rhythm, and movement. It’s about the hips,” he explained.

A New Platform to Share His Passion

Anton has now found a way to merge his love for golf and engaging conversation with Putt and Strut, a podcast he co-hosts with Sarah Stirk. The duo aims to not only entertain but also challenge gender stereotypes in the world of golf. They have already featured high-profile guests such as Judy Murray and James Nesbitt, discussing the barriers some people face when trying to break into the sport.

Anton acknowledged that golf has long had an image of being male-dominated and somewhat intimidating for newcomers. “It’s that hurdle, that intimidatory factor. Everybody feels like it’s a very male-orientated sport, and it sort of is, but not,” he remarked.

With Sarah Stirk by his side, the podcast seeks to make golf more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.

Golf as an Escape and Creative Outlet

Beyond the competition and skill, Anton views golf as a form of relaxation and a place to think creatively. As a father of twins, he consciously avoids bringing work home, so the golf course has become his retreat for brainstorming and planning his projects.

“I don’t do any sort of work at home… because of the children. So when I get onto the golf course, it’s great. It’s where I do everything. I learn lyrics, I think about dance styles, putting shows together,” he shared.

The dance pro has also played in Pro-Am tournaments and has enjoyed rounds of golf with some well-known figures. One of his fondest memories involves playing alongside the late Strictly legend Bruce Forsyth.

Reminiscing about their games together, Anton shared, “We played a lot of golf, and not once did he let me win.”

What’s Next for Anton?

While Anton’s dancing career continues to flourish, his growing involvement in golf and the success of Putt and Strut suggests that his passion for the sport remains as strong as ever. His ability to combine golf with entertainment through his podcast has allowed him to share his enthusiasm with a wider audience.

As he continues to balance his love for dance, golf, and family life, one thing is clear—whether on the dance floor or the fairway, Anton Du Beke is always striving for excellence.
