Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard from This Morning are under fire from viewers after making a comment about being “proud” of their financial status.

Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard sparked controversy during their return to This Morning on February 24, following a week-long break for the half-term holidays.

The presenters, who had taken time off to enjoy skiing trips with their families,

quickly found themselves under fire for what many viewers deemed an “out of touch” conversation about their luxurious holidays.

As the show began, Cat and Ben greeted viewers warmly, with Ben offering a cheerful “Welcome back!” to which Cat replied, “It feels lovely to be back.”

The mood quickly shifted to vacation talk, as the pair shared details of their recent skiing adventures.

Ben kicked things off by asking Cat about her time away, and she happily shared, “Yes, I did a bit of skiing. We went skiing and I took the boys for the very first time.”

Clips were shown of Cat’s sons navigating the slopes, with Cat remarking on their progress, “This is what they managed to do. They actually managed to do that in the end, in matching coats so I could spot them on the slopes. They managed to do it without falling over.” The footage highlighted the family’s fun on the ski slopes, showing her sons taking their first steps into the world of skiing.

Ben, not wanting to be outdone, chimed in to share his own holiday stories. “I loved seeing your footage because I just want to give you a little insight into what your future is going to look like with your two,” he said. He then shared clips of his own children skiing, adding, “That’s my two there. If anyone has been anywhere near Austria, the MooserWirt is a well-known place and I was trying to keep up with my two, so it’s lovely watching you two.” Ben’s narration continued as he described his attempts to keep up with his children on the slopes, saying, “My two ski now, this is me trying to keep up with them, and I was doing everything to get as close to them as I can.”

Cat, ever the jokester, quipped, “Someone was rushing to get down for some milk tray. Desperate for some chocolate,” which elicited a laugh from Ben. He went on to describe the trip as a much-needed escape, saying, “It was lovely to just get out there for a few days in the mountains and it was nice to be warm.” He also mentioned that while his wife Annie wasn’t as interested in skiing as he and the kids were, they still had an enjoyable time.

However, the pair’s lighthearted chat about their skiing holidays didn’t sit well with many This Morning viewers. Social media quickly erupted with criticism, with some viewers accusing the hosts of being “out of touch” with the realities faced by many of their audience. One disgruntled viewer expressed their frustration on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying, “Ben and Cat rubbing their luxurious holidays in the faces of the viewership who are generally overworked, underpaid, over-taxed and unlikely to take such fabulous holidays! #ThisMorning.”

The backlash highlighted the growing disconnect that some viewers feel with celebrities who openly discuss their lavish lifestyles. In this case, Cat and Ben’s casual banter about their ski trips, which included mentions of luxury ski resorts and expensive activities, seemed tone-deaf to those who struggle with financial pressures and everyday challenges. While the hosts’ intention was likely just to share light-hearted stories of their family holidays, it unintentionally rubbed some viewers the wrong way.

Despite the negative response, it’s important to note that the conversation between the hosts wasn’t entirely met with criticism. Some viewers enjoyed hearing about the pair’s personal experiences, with a few expressing excitement over their return to the show. Still, the moment sparked a broader conversation about the sometimes strained relationship between the public and celebrities who share glimpses of their privileged lives.

In the end, while Cat and Ben’s playful exchange was intended to be a fun, relatable moment for viewers, it served as a reminder of how public figures must be mindful of the perceptions they create, especially in a time when many people feel economically strained.
