CONFIRMED: Savannah Guthrie finally addresses the speculation surrounding her EXIT from TODAY—and introduces her “new partner in crime.”

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb have long been known for their warm friendship, both on and off the screen.

Their dynamic chemistry on Today made them one of television’s most beloved duos,

and even after Kotb’s departure from the morning show earlier this year, their bond remains strong.

Whether they’re bumping into each other on vacation or publicly praising one another, the two have maintained a connection that extends far beyond the newsroom.

And as it turns out, their talents aren’t limited to journalism—they can sing, too.

A Surprise Performance That Left Everyone in Awe

A few years ago, Guthrie and Kotb made an unforgettable appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While their visit was originally meant to be a casual guest spot, it quickly turned into an impromptu musical moment. The two longtime co-anchors took center stage alongside Fallon and delivered a surprisingly impressive rendition of Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver. Their harmonies were smooth, their guitar-playing was solid, and their chemistry was undeniable. While they might not be quitting their day jobs to pursue a career in country music, their performance had all the makings of a chart-topping duet.

Dressed to Impress

Adding to the country music flair of the evening was their wardrobe, which perfectly complemented the performance. Guthrie’s ensemble—a sparkly purple skirt paired with black booties—gave off a country superstar vibe reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s earlier days. Kotb, on the other hand, opted for a sleek and sophisticated look with a glittery black top, matching pants, and heels, exuding the energy of a seasoned performer. The two not only sounded great but looked the part as well.

With Jimmy Fallon enthusiastically joining in on vocals, the performance became an unforgettable moment of spontaneity and fun. It showcased a different side of Guthrie and Kotb, proving that their talents go well beyond the newsroom.

A Friendship That Transcends the Studio

Their musical collaboration is just one example of the close friendship Guthrie and Kotb have built over the years. Though Kotb left Today in January after an incredible 26-year tenure with NBC News, Guthrie has continued to celebrate her longtime friend and colleague.

When Kotb’s final day arrived on January 10, emotions ran high as she bid farewell to the show and her co-hosts. Guthrie, in particular, found it difficult to say goodbye, knowing the void Kotb would leave behind. “There’s no way there wasn’t going to be tears,” she admitted during a heartfelt send-off.

She continued, “Hoda, we love you so much. And when you look around and see these tears, they’re love. You are so loved.”

Guthrie went on to express her admiration for Kotb, emphasizing how much she has meant to the Today family. “Honestly, I don’t think any of us can imagine—we don’t want to imagine—this place without you,” she shared. “So it’s complicated because we love you so much, and we don’t want you to ever go. But also, I just want to say, I am so proud of my friend.”

A New Chapter for Kotb

Although Kotb has stepped away from Today, Guthrie reassured her that her former colleagues will always be cheering her on. “We love you enough to let you go shine, run after your dreams, and go find this next chapter. We frankly can’t wait to see what you do, but we’ll just be here waiting for you.”

While Kotb’s next move remains to be seen, one thing is certain—her time on Today left a lasting impact, not only on viewers but on her colleagues as well. And as for Guthrie and Kotb’s musical talents? If their Tonight Show performance was any indication, perhaps a country duet album isn’t completely out of the question.
