Nick Dixon from GMB surprises audiences with his announcement of departure, stating he feels he is being “stretched to his breaking point” by BBC management: “Now, even the slightest wind can bring me down.”

Good Morning Britain (GMB) has come under fire from viewers after reporter Nick Dixon was seen struggling against the powerful winds of Storm Eowyn during a live broadcast.

The storm, which has already produced wind speeds of up to 114mph (183km/h), has led to severe weather warnings across parts of the UK and Ireland,

with Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland placed under a red alert. The warning has since been extended to parts of Scotland as the storm continues to wreak havoc.

Storm Eowyn has brought transport networks to a standstill, with strong gusts causing major disruptions and raising concerns about public safety.

Authorities have warned of potential dangers to life, fallen power lines, widespread electricity outages, and significant infrastructure damage.

Residents in Northern Ireland and Scotland have been urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Reporter Struggles Against Fierce Winds

Despite the severe conditions, GMB sent reporter Nick Dixon to the seafront town of Largs, Scotland, to cover the storm’s impact live on air. Viewers watched in concern as Dixon struggled to maintain his balance amid the ferocious winds. In his report, Dixon described the intensifying conditions, stating, “The wind really has intensified, particularly in the last 45 minutes. The gusts at times are in excess of 70mph. We’re still a couple of hours away from the red warning at 10am.”

The dramatic footage of Dixon battling the extreme weather immediately sparked backlash from viewers, who took to social media to criticize the decision to send reporters into such dangerous conditions. Many pointed out the contradiction of warning the public to stay indoors while exposing journalists to life-threatening weather.

Public Outrage on Social Media

Concerned viewers expressed their frustration on X (formerly Twitter), with one user writing, “Ridiculous to have Nick Dixon reporting in that awful weather. Telling people to stay indoors while sending a reporter to an area with a red warning is beyond irresponsible. Get him to safety NOW!”

Another viewer questioned the logic behind the decision, stating, “Why is Nick Dixon standing next to water in the middle of a storm? That’s so irresponsible when you’re telling people to stay inside!”

The outrage continued as more viewers condemned GMB’s decision to deploy multiple reporters to storm-hit areas across the UK and Ireland. One angry user wrote, “Danger to life warning, yet GMB sends numerous reporters into #StormEowyn just to get dramatic footage. Where is the logic in that? Unbelievable!”

Kate Garraway Responds to Concerns

GMB presenter Kate Garraway, who was in the studio, appeared visibly concerned as she checked in on Dixon during his report. She acknowledged the severity of the situation, saying, “Goodness me, we can see how much you’re under pressure from those winds and the rain. The warning doesn’t even arrive until 10am, does it? Are you okay?”

She also addressed the growing backlash online, informing Dixon that many viewers were worried about his safety and urging that he get inside and warm up. Despite reassurances that necessary precautions were taken, the criticism continued to mount.

Severe Weather Disrupts Daily Life

Millions of Scots received emergency alerts warning them of the impending storm, advising them to remain indoors. In response to the extreme weather, ScotRail announced a complete suspension of services, with no trains operating north of Newcastle or Preston. The decision to halt public transport was made to ensure passenger safety and prevent accidents caused by fallen debris and extreme winds.

Meteorologists have confirmed that Storm Eowyn has set a new wind speed record, with 114mph gusts recorded in Ireland. Forecasters have warned that all 76 cities in the UK could experience power outages, loss of mobile phone signals, and travel disruptions as the storm continues its rampage.

A red alert remains in effect across Northern Ireland until 2:00 PM GMT, while Scotland’s warning will remain in place from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Officials have stressed the importance of heeding the warnings, as conditions could pose a serious risk to life.

Debate Over Reporting in Extreme Weather

The controversy surrounding Nick Dixon’s storm coverage has reignited a long-standing debate about the ethics of sending reporters into hazardous situations. While some argue that live coverage provides valuable firsthand insight into the impact of extreme weather, others believe it is an unnecessary risk that endangers journalists for the sake of dramatic footage.

As the backlash continues, it remains to be seen whether broadcasters will reconsider their approach to storm reporting. For now, with Storm Eowyn still unleashing its fury, authorities are urging the public to remain indoors and stay safe.
