Savannah Guthrie has addressed speculation about her future on Today following Hoda Kotb’s departure,

revealing that while she remains open to possibilities, she is currently happy in her role.
The 53-year-old journalist recently reflected on her time at the NBC morning show and the impact of her longtime colleague’s exit, sharing her thoughts on what lies ahead.
Savannah Reflects on Hoda’s Exit

Hoda Kotb’s decision to leave Today earlier this year marked the end of an era for the show.

The beloved broadcaster, who had co-hosted with Savannah for years, stepped away from her position on January 10 to pursue other interests.

Savannah admitted that she was deeply affected by Hoda’s departure. “I was heartbroken,” she confessed in a recent interview. Despite the change, she remains optimistic about her own future with the program.
“What I know now is that I have the best job with the best people, both on camera and behind the scenes,” she shared. “We’re doing important work, and it’s fun. Who knows what the future holds? I’m open, but I’m pretty darn happy.”
Keeping in Touch with Hoda
Even though they are no longer co-hosting together, Savannah and Hoda’s friendship remains as strong as ever. The two have kept in touch, frequently exchanging messages and even meeting up in person.
Savannah revealed that she recently texted Hoda to ask if she was still waking up at the early hours she had grown accustomed to during her Today tenure. Hoda’s response? “Yes.”
“I bet she misses all of us, but she’s really happy,” Savannah said, expressing her belief that Hoda is embracing this new chapter in her life.
Their friendship was on full display when Hoda surprised Savannah at a book signing for her children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You, in New Jersey on February 25. Overwhelmed by the unexpected appearance, Savannah shared how much the moment meant to her.
“I thought I was hallucinating. It made me feel so good,” she said on Today the next day. “It was just amazing. It’s so, so sweet and so, so her.”

Beyond the book event, the two also recently ran into each other while vacationing in Palm Beach, Florida, with their families. Savannah even posted a photo of their reunion on Instagram, captioning it, “Oh, and a bonus @hodakotb sighting for a little extra sunshine.”
Adjusting to a New Hosting Dynamic
With Hoda’s exit, Savannah has been adjusting to a new hosting arrangement. She has now taken on co-hosting duties during Today’s early morning hours alongside Craig Melvin. While change is always an adjustment, Savannah has continued to bring her signature warmth and professionalism to the program.
Throughout her tenure, she has built strong relationships with her colleagues, including Jenna Bush Hager. Savannah reflected on their close bond, revealing that their friendship blossomed long before they became co-hosts.
“We were neighbors first,” she shared. “We literally lived next door to each other, and our kids went to the same school. We had this precious time of being in and out of each other’s houses every day.”
Jenna, who shares three children—Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5—with husband Henry Hager, has become like family to Savannah. She revealed that she is even the godmother to Jenna’s youngest son.

“Her little boy is my godson, and our husbands are buddies. We go on trips together. It’s been just a wonderful surprise of life,” Savannah said.
Looking Ahead
While Savannah remains content in her current role, she is also aware that change is inevitable. When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave behind on Today, she admitted that she had never really thought about it.
“I’ve never been asked that question. It’s exciting—and it also means I’m old!” she joked. “I don’t know. I hope it’s taking good care of the show in the moments that I got to have my hands on it.”
As for whether she will eventually follow in Hoda’s footsteps and step away from the morning show, Savannah is keeping her options open. However, for now, she is focused on making the most of her time at Today, cherishing her friendships, and continuing to connect with audiences each morning.

While Hoda Kotb’s departure marked a major shift for the program, Savannah’s commitment to the show—and her openness to the future—suggest that she isn’t going anywhere just yet.
