VIDEO: A SAG employee releases a clip of Colin Farrell angrily swearing at event-goers during SAG 2025. But what caused this outburst?

Colin Farrell couldn’t hold back a cheeky F-bomb during his acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday, February 23, 2025,

after a hilarious moment with Jamie Lee Curtis.

The Irish actor, who had undergone dramatic transformation with prosthetics to portray the villainous Penguin in HBO’s The Batman spin-off,

was presented with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

The ceremony took place at the Shrine Auditorium Expo Hall in Los Angeles, where Farrell was joined by some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

The memorable moment occurred when Curtis, a previous Oscar-winner and nominee herself, presented Farrell with the award.

She humorously kicked off her speech by referencing a light-hearted incident that had occurred during the Golden Globe Awards earlier that year. Curtis jokingly blamed Farrell for giving her Covid, a remark that sent the crowd into fits of laughter.

“And the actor (gong) goes to the man who gave me Covid at the Golden Globes, Colin Farrell,” Curtis said with a grin, before Farrell made his way to the stage to accept the award. Farrell, who is no stranger to a bit of humor, played along and admitted, “Guilty as charged, but Brendan Gleeson f****** gave it to me. So I was just spreading the love,” referring to his The Banshees of Inisherin co-star, Brendan Gleeson.

The playful exchange between Farrell and Curtis was met with more laughter, adding a moment of levity to the otherwise prestigious event. Farrell’s humor didn’t stop there as he went on to reflect on his career, his family, and the unpredictable nature of acting.

Farrell, 48, had earlier made waves in 2023 for his critically acclaimed role in The Banshees of Inisherin, a dark comedy that earned him an Oscar nomination. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude toward his family, taking a moment to praise his two sons, James and Henry. “The two people in my life who have made my life so much more special and so much more meaningful and so much more joyful than I ever truly thought possible: my son James and my son Henry,” Farrell said emotionally, showing a tender side of the actor rarely seen in the public eye.

His SAG Awards victory for The Penguin, in which he donned heavy prosthetics to portray the iconic DC Comics villain, added another significant accomplishment to his impressive career. While Farrell’s portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot (a.k.a. The Penguin) in The Batman was met with praise for his dedication to the transformation, this recognition at the SAG Awards signified his continued success in both television and film.

Farrell’s comment about acting being “playtime” struck a chord with many in the industry, highlighting his perspective on the craft. “The annoying thing about what we do, it’s just unquantifiable. It’s playtime. You don’t get to fully grow up,” he said, reinforcing his love for the art of acting and its ability to keep him feeling youthful and inspired. His words resonated with his peers, many of whom share the same passion for the craft of storytelling and the transformative power of performance.

Earlier in the awards season, Farrell and his Banshees of Inisherin co-stars, including Gleeson, had shared their experience of being struck by Covid-19 after attending the Golden Globes. The trio, along with Curtis, made headlines when they all revealed that they had been diagnosed with the virus shortly after the event. While they were forced to withdraw from some of the subsequent award shows, including the SAG Awards, their shared experience became a humorous, albeit somewhat unfortunate, moment of the season.

Farrell’s victory at the SAG Awards and his infectious sense of humor added yet another chapter to what has already been a remarkable year for the actor. With his critically lauded performances and a string of accolades under his belt, Farrell’s career continues to shine as brightly as ever.
